BARINGO HIGH SCHOOL

History and Organisation of Baringo High School
The school was founded in 1st August 1965 as a Day Harambee School under the sponsorship of African Inland Mission (A.I.M) now African Inland Church (A.I.C) on land donated by the Church. It started with 40 students as a mixed school, 10 girls and 30 boys. Mrs. Newman was the founder of the school and was the co-headmistress, to the headmaster Mr. William Baruett as from August 1965 to October 1965.
Since then, the school has continued growing in terms of physical facilities, number of students, nonteaching staff and teachers. Currently the school has 49 TSC teachers, BOM teachers are 11 and 45 essential staff members. The school currently has 10 dormitories accommodating 1418 boys.
The school offers the established curriculum by the Ministry of Education i.e. Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, History, Geography, C.R.E; Business Studies, Agriculture, Music, Metal Work, Building and Construction, Computer Studies, French, German, Music, Drawing & Design and Physical Education.

The student discipline has greatly improved and the school academic KCSE performance has steadily improved where a number of students have qualified to join various Universities every year.

The school having been Harambee school since inception, was taken over by the Government in 1980 and first Registered as a Public school on 15th December 1981, under the Certificate number G/A/97/81.
It was then re-registered as four streams, mixed school with a maximum population of 640 students on 6th December 1996, vide a certificate number GP/A/638/96.
The school was converted to a boys’ school by the D.E.B. Koibatek district on 9th January 2006 with a population of 550 students.
The school lies on 33.38 hectares, 2km from Eldama Ravine town, about 55Km from Nakuru town and can be accessed easily from Eldoret town and Kabarnet town, respectively. The school’s Administration Complex, Nyayo Dormitory and the three Block Houses for teaching staff, were put up by his Excellency the late President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi who was also the patron of the school through the then Board Chairman, Mr. Eric Kotut.

The school also owes a lot to the former late head of state, His Excellency Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi for the provision of facilities in the Boardroom, Head teacher’s offices, some departmental offices leveling the school ground and acquisition of extra land to the school.
The school has benefited so much from high level personalities who have ensured that the school grow. These included:

1. The Late Hon. Dr. Taita Towet, the Minister of Education who was accompanied by P.E.O
Rift Valley on 02/11/1973.
2. H.J. Maina, then Director of Education on 03/10/1974.
3. His Excellency Daniel Arap Moi, the then Vice President on 04/6/1977 to organize for a
fund raising to build permanent classrooms.
4. Honorable Kepha Wagera – the M.P. Nakuru East, an Assistant Minister forBasic
Education on 12/06/1980
5. Hon. J.J. Kamotho, the then Ministry for Higher Education accompanied byMinistry officials
on 08/7/80, just but to mention a few.
6. Hon. Engineer John Tanui, PS, ICT and Digital Economy (2022-2027), who donated 50
desktop computers to BHS.

Before the inception of 8:4:4 system, Baringo High School was an A-Level Mixed Secondary
School. The school has produced many students in various government positions, private firms and various organizations. For example: –
